Do You Remember The First Time  (The Virgin Suicides)
By Corinne Day and Sofia Coppola
People stay in destructive situations because they don’t know how to escape them. When the going gets rough, people’s minds become so busy that their decisions seem dozy and out of focus. People always fall foolishly in love with someone, and then after a couple of years, or even months, their true self comes out. I shouldn’t say foolishly because love itself is a foolish act in itself, or so I’ve heard. And what exactly is a persons ‘true self’? Did we not see this other behavior or personality before, or was it that we hid it from our eyes and mind to make-believe this happily ever after we imagined?
Kirsten Dunst and Ryan Gosling are perfect in this movie. Sometimes actors get cast and their chemistry does not adapt so well to the screenplay, but their relationship is exactly what the plot asked for. An innocent blonde, with an enthusiastic spirit who unfortunately gets sucked into a terrifying socialite New York world. Oh, and Kristen Wiig plays a small role in the movie, but it just goes to show her adaptability to more serious works. If you do end up seeing the whole movie you would agree, if you live in the state, that the creepiest part is when they reveal to you that David Marks currently resides in Florida. Needless to say, this movie left me full of goosebumps and questions. Go ahead, just watch.
